Ethics Bowl Coaching Roundtable

Join the NHSEB Leadership Team and veteran High School Ethics Bowl Coaches from around the United States for a 60-minute roundtable on coaching strategies, practice plans, a general Q&A, and more!

About Our Panelists

  • Heather Lynch, Ph.D. teaches Philosophy and Literature in the International Baccalaureate program at Campbell High School. Her Ethics Bowl team exists as an after-school club welcoming students who are moved to consider some of the most consequential issues of our times. She earned her doctoral degree in Teaching and Learning at Georgia State University in 2013; her research centered on video games, identity, and learning, as well as considering new teachers’ dispositions upon entering the classroom. These days, she is particularly passionate about the work she has the privilege of exploring with young people relevant to philosophies of personhood, ethics, and religion. Heather is a member of the NHSEB Advisory Board’s Rules Council.

  • Merry Guererra, M.A., is a College Credit Plus Composition Instructor at the Hilliard Innovative Learning Campus in Ohio. She also (with Pam Antos) coaches multiple Ethics Bowl teams in her school district. Merry is a member of the NHSEB Advisory Board’s Committee on Equity, Access, and Community, and one of two inaugural winners of the NHSEB Coach of the Year Award in 2022-2023.

During the summer of 2021, he helped lead a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Seminar for teachers entitled "Disputatio and the Pursuit of Wisdom in the Humanities." Additionally, he has been a frequent presenter at conferences and has published several articles on philosophy and education. Sean is a member of the NHSEB Advisory Board’s Committee on Equity, Access, and Community, and Organizer of the NHESBBridge @ Gravitas Online Regional Competition.
