Join us this December for an NHSEBAcademy Live Town Hall event: Moral Status at the Margins. This event will feature a moderated panel discussion with moral philosophers working at the cutting edge of issues of moral status and the expansion of the moral community.

Conversation will focus on those questions about moral status which might arise in this year’s NHSEB Regional Case Set, including those raised by "I'm Afraid." and "Happy to Be Alone." After a brief initial conversation, panelists will take questions from the NHSEB community, moderated in real time by the Parr Center team. Advance registration is required.

About Our Panelists

Jeff Sebo is Clinical Associate Professor of Environmental Studies, Affiliated Professor of Bioethics, Medical Ethics, Philosophy, and Law, Director of the Animal Studies M.A. Program, Director of the Mind, Ethics, and Policy Program, and Co-Director of the Wild Animal Welfare Program at NYU. He is author of Saving Animals, Saving Ourselves (2022) and co-author of Chimpanzee Rights (2018) and Food, Animals, and the Environment (2018). He is also an executive committee member at the Center for Environmental and Animal Protection, a board member at Minding Animals International, a senior research fellow at the Legal Priorities Project, and a mentor at Sentient Media.

Regina Rini holds the Canada Research Chair in Social Reasoning and is Associate Professor of Philosophy at York University in Toronto. Her research focuses on how we navigate shifting norms in public life, particularly in response to technological disruption. Among other topics, she has written about the effects of social media on democratic politics and the significance of machine learning to moral life. In addition to her academic work, she writes the regular ‘Morals of the Story’ column for the Times Literary Supplement. Her most recent book is The Ethics of Microaggression, and she is currently writing a book about the political hazards of seeking philosophical certainty.
